UTUADO, PUERTO RICO – 8/31/18:
A downed electricity pole in the Caniaco Barrio of Utuado. Utuado was one of the municipalities in Puerto Rico hardest hit by Hurricane Maria. It suffered landslides, dozens of downed bridges and deaths. As the year anniversary of the storm that hit Puerto Rico on Sept. 20, 2017 neared a study commissioned by the Puerto Rican Government recognized 2,975 as the official death-toll after maintaining for almost a year that it was only 64. In Caniacos, Utuado a small stretch of road no longer than a couple miles long 4 deaths occurred; 1 directly from the storm and 3 from secondary lack of access to medical services.
